Our Harvest
Caravan Saffron is carefully harvested in organic farms in western Afghanistan. Saffron crocus blooms in the fall over the course of three weeks, when saffron crocus harvesting commences. When it’s time to pick saffron, harvesting saffron farmers carefully reap blooms and then extract the few stigmas by hand. The stigmas are then dried in the sun. It takes about 200,000 saffron flowers yielding 600,000 stigmas to create a single kilogram of saffron!
